On August 2, 2017, firefighter Brent Witham, on the San Bernardino NF Vista Grande Hotshot crew, died on the Lolo Peak Fire on the Lolo National Forest in Montana. Brent was just 29 years old. Forest Supervisor Noiron said "Brent's loss is being felt across the region, the wildland firefighting community and our Forest Service family. In the days ahead, please join me in keeping Brent, his family, friends and coworkers in your thoughts and prayers."
