[californiadisasters] North Ops News & Notes Update (8/07-08/17)



08/08/2017 @ 8 p.m.:

CA-SRF Dutchman Fire: 450 acres, 0% contained. Fire is burning at a rapid rate of spread with spotting and running. Down draft winds from current thunderstorms is continues to cause hazardous conditions for firefighters. 1 structure and mulitiple outbuildings threatened.

CA-SRF Young Fire: 60 acres, 0% contained. Fire is burning at a moderate rate of spread in a remote location within the Siskiyou Wildnerness. 08/08/2017 2000 CA-MDF Parker 2 Fire: 8,079 acres, 30% contained. Advisory evacuations in place for 30 residence near the northeast side of the Warner Mountain Wilderness. Threats continue to livestock, grazing lands and 60 kV powerlines.

CA-MDF Modoc July Complex: 83,109 acres, 91% contained. Steele fire is 45,690 acres and 91% contained. Threats include gas and high voltage transmission lines, historically significant areas, sage grouse habitat, timber holdings, and areas of Native American cultural significance. Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watch remain in effect for the fire area for abundant lightning through 8/10/17

CA-PNF Minerva 5 Fire: 4,310 acres, 91% contained. Minimal threat remains to local watersheds and infrastructure. Suppression repair and mop up continue.

CA-KNF Clear Fire: 6,400 acres, 47% contained. Moderate rate of spread with backing, flanking and spotting. Several trail and forest road closures in effect, No Man's Campground is closed. Spotted Owl, Coho Salmon, and Steelhead habitat is threatened. Smoke conditions are impacting the community of Happy Camp. A Red Flag Warning in effect for abundant lightning until 10 PM tonight.

CA-SRF Orleans Fire: 5,033 acres, 11% contained. Moderate fire behavior with backing, flanking and short-range spotting. Ukonom fire is 3,800 acres, 40% contained. The Burney Fire 970 acres, 0% contained, Forks Fire 240 acres, 0% contained. All other fires are less than 15 acres. Threat to Ukonom Lookout, communications infrastructure, significant cultural sites for the Karuk Tribe, Klamath River water shed, spotted owl and salmon habitat.

CA-PNF Poslin Fire: 859 acres, 80% contained. Minimal fire behavior.

CA-MDF Chalk Fire: 250 acres, 100% contained.

CA-NOD W-2 Fire: 115 acres, 75% contained.

CA-TNF Chilcoot Fire: 1,021 acres, 100% contained.

CA-SRF Dutchman Fire: 450 acres timber,0% contained. Fire is located at Dutchman Rd., 7 miles East of Zenia. Fire is burning at a rapid rate of spread, with a structure threat. Down draft winds from current thunderstorms are causing erratic and hazardous conditions for firefighters.

CA-SRF Young Fire: 60 acres timber, 0% contained. Fire is located at Twin Peaks, 15 miles East of Gasquet. Suppression strategy is currently being evaluated. Fire is burning at a moderate rate of spread in a remote location within the Siskiyou Wilderness.

CA-NOD W-2 Fire: 115 acres, 75% contained.

CA-TNF Chilcoot Fire: 1,021 acres, 90% contained.

CA-MDF Chalk Fire: 250 acres, 0% contained. Fire made some overnight runs, with no threats. 08/08/2017 1000 CA-PNF Poslin Fire: 800 acres, 50% contained. Minimal fire behavior observed overnight. No current threats.

CA-PNF Minerva 5 Fire: 4,310 acres, 85% contained. CA-IMT2 (Mills) assigned. Threats remain to local watersheds and infrastructure.

CA-MDF Modoc July Complex: 83,001 acres, 91% contained. CA-IMT1 (Kurth). The Steele fire is 45,690 acres and 91% contained. All other fires in the complex are fully contained. Threats include gas and high voltage transmission lines, historically significant areas, sage grouse habitat, timber holdings, and areas of Native American cultural significance

Effects to water quality in Clear Creek and Gumboot Creek. Smoke conditions are impacting the community of Happy Camp. A Red Flag Warning for abundant Lightning over the fire area until 2200 tonight.

Ukonom fire is 3,300 acres and 29% contained with a full suppression strategy. The Burney Fire is 970 acres and 0% contained, the Forks Fire is 240 acres and 0% contained. All other fires are less than 15 acres. Threat to Ukonom Lookout, communications infrastructure, significant cultural sites for the Karuk Tribe, Klamath River water shed, spotted owl and salmon habitat

National Weather Service Medford has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon today to 10 PM this evening for abundant lightning on dry fuels for zones 280, 281, 282, and 284.

In addition a Fire Weather Watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening for abundant lightning for Fire Weather Zones 280, 281, 282, and 284. link

National Weather Service Eureka has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM this evening for scattered thunderstorms and lightning activity. Effected areas Fire Weather Zones 204 and 283. Link

CA-MDF Chalk Fire: 75 acres grass, brush, 0% contained. Fire is burning with a moderate rate of spread. Fire is no longer threatening the Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

CA-PNF Minerva 5 Fire: 4,310 acres, 74% contained. CA-IMT2 (Mills) assigned. Threat remains to the town of Quincy, major watersheds, railroad, and infrastructure.

CA-MDF Modoc July Complex: 83,001 acres, 77% contained. CA-IMT1 (Kurth). The Steele fire is 45,690 acres and 57% contained. All other fires in the complex are fully contained. Threats include gas and high voltage transmission lines, historically significant areas, sage grouse habitat, timber holdings, and areas of Native American cultural significance.

CA-NOD W-2 Fire: 150 acres, 75% contained. Crews continue to secure line around the fire. Precipitation over the fire area today.

National Weather Service - Sacramento has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect from 1300 to 2000 this evening for abundant lightning on dry fuels. Effected areas fire weather zones 203, 204, and 283 including Western Shasta Trinity National Forest including Trinity Alps and Trinity Dam/Clair Engle lake. Link

National Weather Service - Medford has issued a Red Flag Warnings in effect from 1300 to 2000 today for abundant lightning on dry fuels. Effected areas include fire weather zones 280, 281, 282, 284, 285 and the Klamath, Shasta Trinity, and Modoc National Forests. Link

CA-PNF Poslin fire: 900 acrea, 2% contained. Active fire behavior. The fire is burning west away from Hwy 395, with structures threatened. Threats to Hwy 395, railroads, powerlines and communications sites.

CA-NOD W-2 Fire: 115 acres, 25% contained. No overnight fire growth. Heavy mop-up.

CA-TNF Chilcoot Fire: 1,021 acres grass, brush, 0% contained. Voluntary evacuations in place for the town of Chilcoot and Vinton. Access for engine crews is limited.

CA-SRF Orleans Fire: 4,418 acres, 7% contained. Moderate fire behavior. CA IMT 2 (Coots) in command of the Ukonom, Burney and Frank Fire. Six Rivers NF will retain control of the remaining fires with a Type 3 IC. Ukonom fire is 3,200 acres and 19% contained with a full suppression strategy. The Burney Fire is 970 acres and 0% contained, the Forks Fire is 231 acres and 0% contained. All other fires are less than 15 acres. Threat to Ukonom Lookout, communications infrastructure, significant cultural sites for the Karuk Tribe, Klamath river water shed, spotted owl and salmon habitat. Smoke is impacting nearby communities.

CA-KNF Clear Fire: 5,200 acres, 40% contained. This is a Type 3 Incident. Several trail and forest road closures in effect. Spotted Owl, Coho Salmon, and Steel head habitat is threatened. Effects to water quality in Clear Creek and Gumboot Creek. Smoke conditions are impacting the community of Happy Camp.

CA-PNF Minerva 5 Fire: 4,307 acres, 64% contained. CA-IMT2 (Mills) assigned. Moderate fire behavior with running and torching. Threat remains to the town of Quincy, major watersheds, railroad, and infrastructure. Suppression repair has started in some areas of the fire.

CA-MDF Parker 2 Fire: 7,992 acres, 15% contained. CA-IMT2 (Young) assigned. Advisory evacuations in place for 30 residence near the northeast side of the Warner Mountain Wilderness. Livestock, grazing lands, 60Kv powerlines and a Class 1 Airshed is either threatened or impacted. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for today for abundant lightning and dry fuels from 1200 to 2200 today.

CA-MDF Modoc July Complex: 83,001 acres, 77% contained. CA-IMT1 (Kurth). The Cove fire is 30,886 acres and 100% contained. The Steele fire is 45,690 acres and 57% contained. All other fires in the complex are fully contained. Moderate fire behavior with some tourching. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for today for abundant lightning and outflow winds. threats include gas and high voltage transmission lines, historically significant areas, sage grouse habitat, timber holdings, and areas of Native American cultural significance.
