[californiadisasters] North Ops News & Notes Update (8/09/17)



08/09/2017 7:30 p.m.:

CA-KNF Cedar Fire: 20 acres timber, 0% contained. Fire is located 2.5 miles south of Pyramid Peak, 10.5 miles north of Happy Camp. Fire is burning at a moderate of spread, with no threats.

CA-SRF Ruth Complex: 653 acres timber, 0% contained. Fire is burning with a moderate rate of spread. Largest fires in complex Dutchman Fire: 600 acres, 0% contained, Secret Fire: 45 acres, 0% contained both with structure threat. All other fires remain under 5 acres.

CA-SRF Dutchman Fire: 450 acres, 0% contained. Fire is burning at a rapid rate of spread with spotting and running. Down draft winds from current thunderstorms is continues to cause hazardous conditions for firefighters. 1 structure and mulitiple outbuildings threatened

CA-MDF Parker 2 Fire: 8,079 acres, 40% contained. Threat to livestock, grazing lands, 60 kV powerlines and archaeological sensitive sites. Abundant lightning will remain in the fire area until 8/10/17.

CA-MDF Modoc July Complex: 83,120 acres, 91% contained. Steele fire is 45,690 acres and 91% contained. Suppression repair continues on all fires. Red Flag Warning and Fire Weather Watch remain in effect for the fire area for abundant lightning through 8/10/17

CA-PNF Minerva 5 Fire: 4,310 acres, 95% contained. Minimal threat remains to local watersheds and infrastructure. Suppression repair and mop up continue.

CA-SRF Orleans Fire: 5,264 acres, 14% contained. Moderate fire behavior with backing, flanking and short-range spotting. Ukonom fire is 3,854 acres, 52% contained. The Burney Fire 1,123acres, 0% contained, Forks Fire 243 acres, 0% contained. All other fires are less than 15 acres. Threat to Ukonom Lookout, communications infrastructure, significant cultural sites for the Karuk Tribe, Klamath River water shed, spotted owl and salmon habitat.

CA-KNF Clear Fire: 6,503 acres, 60% contained. Moderate fire behavior, fire continues to burn isolated pockets of fuel within the perimeter. Several roads, trailheads and campgrounds are closed effective August 1. Spotted Owl, Coho Salmon, and Steelhead habitat is threatened. Smoke conditions are impacting the community of Happy Camp. Red Flag warnings remain in effect over fire area through Thursday evening.

CA-PNF Poslin Fire: 859 acres, 100% contained. Minimal fire behavior

CA-SRF Young Fire: 70 acres, 0% contained. Fire is burning in a remote location within the Siskiyou Wildnerness.

CA-NOD W-2 Fire: 115 acres, 100% contained

CA-SRF Ruth Complex: 490 acres, 0% contained. Fire is burning with a moderate rate of spread. The largest fires in the complex are the Dutchman and the Secret fires. The other fires are under 3 acres, with 3 burning in the North Fork Wilderness. There are threats to structures and private property.

National Weather Service Medford Red Flag Warning remains in effect from noon today to 10 PM this evening for abundant lightning on dry fuels for Fire Weather Zone 280, 281, 282, 284 and 285.

In addition the Fire Weather Watch remains in effect from Thursday afternoon to Thursday evening for Fire Weather Zones 280, 281, 282, 284 and 285. Link

CA-SRF Dutchman Fire: 500 acres, 0% contained. Fire is burning at a moderate rate of spread. Structures are threatened.

CA-SRF Young Fire: 60 acres, 0% contained. Fire is burning in a remote location within the Siskiyou Wildnerness.

CA-MDF Parker 2 Fire: 8,079 acres, 30% contained. Advisory evacuation warnings have been lifted. Threat to livestock, grazing lands, 60 kV powerlines and archaeological sensitive sites. Abundant lightning will remain in the fire area until 8/10/17.

CA-PNF Poslin Fire: 860 acres, 80% contained. Minimal, creeping fire behavior observed overnight.

CA-MDF Modoc July Complex: 83,109 acres, 91% contained. Steele fire is 45,690 acres and 91% contained. Suppression repair continues on all fires. Threats include gas and high voltage transmission lines, historically significant areas, sage grouse habitat, timber holdings, and areas of Native American cultural significance. Red Flag Warning and Fire Weather Watch remain in effect for the fire area for abundant lightning through 8/10/17

CA-PNF Minerva 5 Fire: 4,310 acres, 91% contained. Minimal threat remains to local watersheds and infrastructure. Suppression repair and mop up continue.

CA-KNF Clear Fire: 6,400 acres, 47% contained. Moderate rate of spread with backing, flanking and spotting. Several trail and forest road closures in effect, No Man's Campground is closed. Spotted Owl, Coho Salmon, and Steelhead habitat is threatened. Smoke conditions are impacting the community of Happy Camp.

CA-SRF Orleans Fire: 5,033 acres, 11% contained. Moderate fire behavior with backing, flanking and short-range spotting. Ukonom fire is 3,800 acres, 40% contained. The Burney Fire 970 acres, 0% contained, Forks Fire 240 acres, 0% contained. All other fires are less than 15 acres. Threat to Ukonom Lookout, communications infrastructure, significant cultural sites for the Karuk Tribe, Klamath River water shed, spotted owl and salmon habitat.

CA-NOD W-2 Fire: 115 acres, 75% contained.
