[californiadisasters] CA fires

Holy hell--we now have the Helena fire in Trinity County; the Ponderosa in Butte; and the Slinkard in Mono, all in the thousands of acres, all with significant evacuations, structures lost, communities threatened, and now a wind change to out of the north.  (I'm not listing the ongoing Siskiyou and coastal fires, this email would be far too long.  Suffice to say, they're damned nasty.)

PONDEROSA: 3150 ac., 10% containment, VLATS in use, over 1000 personnel.  Butte County, near Oroville.
HELENA: 1500 ac., 0% containment, west of Weaverville, CA
SLINKARD: 3000 ac., 0% containment, located near Topaz in Mono County.

Here in Butte, I walked outside and had chem lab flashbacks--you know, the smell of 'glowing splints' that have been dunked in water?  Yeah, that.  Blech!  I cannot imagine how hard the fire folks are working right now, all over the place, with nearly 1,000 fires on the US map--even just these three are horrendously intense.

May all fire folk come home soon, safe and triumphant, to crash out for about a week in good A/C while it rains and rains!
