[californiadisasters] On This Date In California Weather History (June 22)



2008: Gusty winds helped to fuel a wildfire in Santa Clara County named the Hummingbird and Whitehurst Fire.
The fire burned for four days burning 1,056 acres.


2005:
Thunderstorms developed over Clark County around 2 AM and continued throughout southern Nevada and southeast California until 8 PM.
An estimated 13,000 lightning strikes were recorded which led to several hundred wildfire starts. Many of these fires burned themselves out over time, but 15 significant complexes burned for several days.
Over 750,000 acres were burned and 7 Incident Management Teams were deployed.
The last fire from this day was extinguished on July 10th.

2000:
A slow moving thunderstorm dumped over an inch of rain in Needles, CA causing roads throughout much of the town to become flooded.
The Sheriff's office reported that many roadways were covered with debris.
Power was also knocked out to much of the town for the majority of the night.
A fierce thunderstorm damaged a hanger at Barstow-Daggett Airport and knocked out electricity for runway lights.
The wind tore a 50-foot-long section of vent cap from the roof of a World War II vintage hanger and caused several power lines to fall, cutting power to the two airport runways.

1973:
It was very hot in the valleys on this day.
San Jacinto reached 112° F, Riverside hit 109° F, and Sun City (now Menifee) reached 108° F.

1961:
Searing heat: highs of 117° F at Friant Dam and 114° F at Ash Mountain (Southern Sierra).

1913: Susanville recorded 1.4" of precipitation.
