2014: This is the only day on which rain has never been officially recorded in Bakersfield and Fresno; now at the 137th consecutive year for no rainfall on this date.

2012: This is the only day on which rain has never been officially recorded in Bakersfield and Fresno; now at the 135th consecutive year for no rainfall on this date.

2008: During the weekend of June 21-22, a low-pressure system crossed through California producing dry lightning and igniting nearly 2000 fires across 17 counties.
Thunderstorms rolled through the Monterey Bay Area around midday on the 21st.
Lightning from those thunderstorms started what was to be known as the Basin Complex Fire in Monterey County.
The Basin Complex fire burned for over a month and was not declared 100% contained until July 27.
The fire burned more than 160,000 acres in the Santa Lucia Mountains above Big Sur.

2000: Heavy rains (about 1") hit La Jolla Indian Reservation near Palomar Mountain on a recently burned area.
Flooding and mudslides occurred along Hwy. 76, where 200 feet of highway was covered by up to 18" of mud.

2000: A peak wind gust of 83 mph was reported in Lake Havasu City, AZ, from thunderstorm outflow.
These winds caused trees and transformers to be blown down and several houseboats were damaged as the strong winds pushed them ashore.

1988: Woodfords (Alpine Co.) recorded 1.16" of precipitation.

1961: Earliest triple digit temperature on record at Yosemite Valley, 100° F.

1954: The low temperature in Redwood City was just 73° F.

1929: Santa Maria established an all-time high of 109° F.

Weather factoid of the day: No precip has ever been recorded on this date in Yuma, AZ.
