Garland, TX Tornado Situation Report #1 (December 27th)

 

 

Highlights:  

·         A strong storm system continues to impact the central U.S. producing several hazards. Severe thunderstorms with potential of tornadoes, heavy rain, flash flooding/flooding, and blizzard conditions are being experienced across the Southern Plains & Mississippi Valleys.

·         The City of Garland can no longer accept donations collected.  If you have goods or services to donate, or if you would like to volunteer, please register at: GarlandTx.Recovers.org

·         The National Weather Service have determined that damage is consistent with an EF-4 tornado.  This is the second EF-4 tornado in Dallas County since 1950.

·         Currently, no specific need for volunteers.  If you or your group are interested in volunteering, register online at GarlandTX.Recovers.org.

·         There have been 8 confirmed fatalities due to the storm.  There were 15 people transported by ambulance to local hospitals with various injuries, none that appeared to be life-threatening at the time of transport.

·         The Dallas County Mutual Aid was requested for additional emergency personnel that were needed after the storm.

·         Approximately 600 structures have been damaged in the storm.  They include single-family, multi-family and commercial property.  Single family homes account for the largest percentage of damage.

·         The Texas State EOC is activated to Level III (Partial Activation).

·         The Governor of Texas has declared a State of Emergency for Collin, Dallas, Ellis and Rockwall Counties.

·         Texas USAR Task Force 1 (Type 1: 70-members) has been deployed to Rowlett, TX.  Additional USAR resources from Dallas and Arlington have deployed to Rowlett and Garland, TX areas.

·         The Oklahoma State EOC is activated at Level II.
