The "sinkhole" is estimated to be 100 metres.

A "sinkhole" has swallowed up a section of North Stradbroke Island, 30 kilometres southeast of the Brisbane, Queensland.

A member of the public notified Surf Life Saving Queensland of the collapse at Jumpin Pin, a stretch of main beach on the southern tip of the island.

It is understood no one was around when the beach fell into the sea.

The estimated 100m long hole is 15 kilometres from the nearest patrolled section of main beach.

Jumpin Pin beach is a popular fishing spot and only accessible by 4WD.

A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesperson warned people to stay away from the "sinkhole" as the area around it was unstable and more sand could break off.

In September, a giant sinkhole opened up at Inskip Point on Queensland's Sunshine Coast which swallowed a car, caravan and a camper trailer.
