KILAUEA VOLCANO (VNUM #332010)
19°25'16" N 155°17'13" W, Summit Elevation 4091 ft (1247 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WARNING
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

Scientists of the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) conducted fieldwork today to track active breakouts in the area of the ground crack system. The breakouts were less active this morning compared to the past few days, with small, slow-moving pahoehoe flows located west of the original June 27th lava flow margin. The front of these breakouts was still roughly 5.8 km (3.6 miles) upslope from Apaʻa St., as measured along a straight line. The crew also noted evidence for inflation upslope of the breakout’s flow front and some burning of forest along the flow margins. Many methane explosions occurred during the fieldwork. No significant changes occurred at Puʻu ʻŌʻō or the summit today.

An overflight is scheduled for Monday.

Daily updates about Kilauea's ongoing eruptions, recent images and videos of summit and East Rift Zone volcanic activity, and data about recent earthquakes are posted on the HVO Web site at http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov.

A daily update is posted in the morning, and a status report is posted later in the day as new information becomes available and if warranted. Updates and status reports are posted at http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/activity/kilaueastatus.php.
