RE: [Geology2] Terrain outside Anchorage, Alaska after the March 27, 1964 Earthquake (Magnitude 9.2)

And the tsunami killed folks in OR and inundated Crescent City causing more deaths (2 plus 19 if memory serves).  That’s often forgotten.

 

Anchorage has recovered (now a full blown city [a four letter word]).  The town at the epicenter (Portage) was moved to higher ground (last known building is gone, pushed over by bears at a habitat center over the last couple years).  Seward recovered too but Valdez was moved a few miles to get off of the mud flats (some traces are still there of the old town) and is doing great (being the terminus of the pipeline helped).

 

If you do get to Resurrection Bay, look at the trees but be warned: thar be whales there!  ;0)
