[californiadisasters] On This Date In California Weather History (August 27)



2011: Scattered high based thunderstorms moved across Imperial county during the late evening hours on August 27th.
The storms generated strong and gusty outflow winds, especially across far eastern Imperial county near the lower Colorado river valley.
Peak wind gusts were measured in excess of 60 mph.

2010:
Severe thunderstorms affected a portion of southeast California.
Hail to ping pong ball size was reported by the public in El Centro and Brawley.
Also in Brawley, a large water tank was rolled 100 feet.

2003:
Thunderstorms developed in the mountains each day starting on 8.25 and ending on this day.
Flooding closed Hwy. 38 in Big Bear City, roads near Guatay, routes S2 and S22 near Ranchita, Hwy. 78 east of Julian (from rock slides and mud slides) and streets in Borrego Springs and Campo.

1973: It was 55° in Borrego Springs, the lowest temperature on record for August.

1972: A dust storm resulted in visibility near zero on I-5 in Kern County.

1954: It was 52° in Palm Springs, the lowest temperature on record for August.
This also occurred on 8.30.1957.

1951: A hurricane moving north northwestward just off the west coast of Baja California moved northeastward into northern Baja California and dissipated.
Moisture from this tropical cyclone resulted in rainfall of 2"-5" in the mountains and deserts starting on this day and ending on 8.29.
A daily record of 1.1" fell in Borrego Springs.
Many roads were washed out in the Imperial Valley, but otherwise no major damage occurred.
This occurred during the El NiƱo of 1951-52.

1944: It was 107° at San Luis Obispo, establishing an all-time high for August.

1924: The high temperature at Lovelock, NV was 104°, while Reno, NV recorded a high of 100°.
