[californiadisasters] On This Date In CA Weather History (July 26)



2009: A long period four foot south swell generated high surf and strong rip currents from 7.24 to this day.
8'-10' surf with sets to 12' were observed at many south facing beaches, and sets up to 20' reported in the most favorable locations.
The high surf also generated strong rip currents, which were responsible for hundreds, or even thousands, of rescues throughout Southern California.
Structural damage and one death occurred.

2006: Fresno recorded it's 5th day in a row with a minimum of 80° or better.
This is the longest such streak of days on record.

2006: A thunderstorm produced one inch hail southeast of Julian.

1996: Surf from 7'-10' with sets to 12' occurred from 7.24 to this day.
It was generated by an intense South Pacific storm south of Tahiti.
More than 500 rescues were made at Southern California beaches.

1973: San Luis Obispo hit 106° setting a record high for July.

1956:
Strong monsoon flow hit the region with thunderstorms each day from 7.23 to 7.28, even west of the mountains.
Damage and flooding occurred on most of these days.

1944: Portola recorded 1.65" of precipitation.

1933: The high temperature at Lovelock, NV, was 107°.

1931: Bakersfield reaches 117° for a record high temperature for the day.

1928: Susanville recorded an afternoon high of 104°.
