Overnight, the Northern Sierra Nevada and foothills experienced a good deal of lightning, some of it dry. This weather pattern continues today. Already this morning there are thunderstorms not only scattered across the Northern half of the Sierra Nevada Range but also some have leaked out into the Central Valley and convection is also occurring further south into the Southern Sierra. This activity will increase throughout the day as our star heats our planet's atmosphere and convection percolates. Of course, this has the potential to have already started wildfires and start additional wildfires henceforth today. It is also worth noting this lightning is a threat to strike people who are not taking due precautions so please take care.
