1998: It was 123° at Thermal, 119° at Borrego Springs and 118° at Palm Springs.

1995: A heat wave started on this day and ended on 7.29.
It was 123° at Palm Springs on 7.28 and on 7.29.
On this day it was 120° in Coachella, 113° in San Jacinto, 112° in Riverside, 111° in Banning, Moreno Valley, and Sun City, and 110° in Yucaipa.

1987: A tornado touched down in Twentynine Palms.

1980: Carson City, NV, had a high temperature of 101°.

1975: The high temperature at Lovelock was 107°.

1969: A heavy thunderstorm hit Lucerne Valley.
Flash floods and debris flows moved several cars off the highway and caused damage to some homes.
A three foot wall of water ripped out three miles of highway.

1956: Strong monsoon flow hit the region with thunderstorms each day from 7.23 to 7.28, even west of the mountains.
On this day through 7.28 successive thunderstorms brought flash floods and mudslides to the Barton Flats area, damaging and closing roads.

1946: Hail piled up to 1.5" between Wrightwood and Big Pines.
Some property damage was caused by the heavy rain and hail.

1939: A severe thunderstorm hit Needles with 1.46" of rain in nine hours from 6 pm this day to 3 am 7.29.
Flash floods and debris flows damaged homes and businesses.
Hail over one inch in diameter fell in the first 20 minutes.

1934:
It was 117° in Riverside, the highest temperature on record.

1933: One of the hottest days on record in the San Joaquin Valley: 114° was the high at Fresno and Bakersfield reached 117°.
Both still stand as records for the date.
Hanford reached an all-time record high of 116°.
