Army corps to discuss Martis Creek Dam risks

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled public meetings Dec. 1 and 2 to discuss Martis Creek Dam with Truckee and Reno residents.

The Truckee meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Tahoe-Truckee High School, 11723 Donner Pass Road.

The Reno meeting is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 at Horseman's Park Clubhouse, 2800 Pioneer Drive.

A draft baseline risk assessment for the dam, in the Martis Valley near Truckee, is expected to be completed Nov. 30.

Earthquake faults and seepage problems are being considered in an ongoing study of the dam, deemed sixth riskiest of the corps' 610 dams nationwide.
