[californiadisasters] Re: sharing CERT activation information

To answer Janet's question more directly - in City of LA, where CERT is managed by LAFD's Disaster Preparedness Section, "activations" are sent to call-out teams by automatic message to your phone number(s): "This is a CERT Call-Out. Report to (address) at 0700 (or soon as possible, etc.)...(followed by specific instructions, gear to bring, etc.)." Message ends and computer voice prompts, press 1 to say you'll be there or press 2 to say you can't. I know I also get email messages on my blackberry regarding call outs, but I don't remember if it tells me to call a number or to expect a call shortly.

I understand this is the same (or similar) system City of LA uses to contact workers (Fire, Police, DWP) to report to duty in emergencies.

LA Sheriff runs County of LA CERT activation (though LACoFD has involvement in training). I don't know their activation method off-hand.

Additional information may(?) be found at http://www.cert-la.com?

Hope this helps,
--W.
